The Human-Centered Software Engineering Group (HCSE) is a multidisciplinary research group at Concordia University.

Our group includes usability and human factors specialists, software and computer engineers, cognitive psychologists, and artists. We are dedicated to advancing the basic science and technology in human-centered software systems development, human-computer interfaces engineering, usability and quality in use engineering, empirical studies for software engineering through a program of fundamental research, graduate education, as well as technology development.

We are building a new generation of software engineering tools and methods that can support the development and maintenance of human-centric, usable and accessible interactive systems while building a tighter fit between human experiences and the software engineering practices.

Concordia Usability and Empirical Studies Lab

This newly established lab includes state of the art software, hardware and audio/video equipment. It is used to collect observational and behavioural data, including video observations, user interactions and feedback- both in the lab and onsite. The lab also provides an advanced environment for building proof-of-concept prototypes, storyboards, mock-ups and task scenarios, in participatory design sessions. The lab's portable and remote components offer digital audio/video equipment for collecting and monitoring data at the work place or via a network. Find out more about the Usability Lab.
