Guidelines / Policies

Inviting Visiting Lecturers

  1. Requests for a Departmental seminar should be forwarded to the Department's seminar coordinator, Dr. Chvátal for approval. The Department chair may also approve such requests in the absence of the seminar coordinator.
  2. The seminar title, date, and name of the visitor should be forwarded to department administrator along with the approval e-mail from the seminar coordinator.
  3. Hotel accommodation expenses will be incurred by the department for 1 night.
  4. A check requisition for $100.00 Canadian will be prepared. Please note that by our University policy, the speaker can only be paid in Canadian Dollars and that this payment must be in the form of a check and not in cash. Instead of a check of $100 Canadian, the organizer may request giving the speaker a gift, purchased from the Concordia bookstore. Such request must be received early enough for the gift to be purchased by the Department.
  5. Other expenditures, such as for transportation or promotional meals, will be based upon the approval of the seminar coordinator.

Short term visitors

Normally visiting research scholars to the Department have to be approved and officially invited by the Dean. Such visitors will come to Canada with a work-permit that permits them to work.

Based on such official letters, a visiting scholar is given the University ID-card and can be given access to the Department and facilities like email, access to a lab, and possible work-space.

The Department has the responsibility for the health and safety of such people when they work in the University premises.
